3M™ 231 Masking Tape is a general-purpose crepe paper masking tape with a 7.6 mil total thickness, combining a conformable crepe backing with a rubber adhesive that bonds quickly and releases cleanly from powder-coated metals and stainless steel without leaving residue.
Its solvent and moisture resistance makes it a reliable choice for spray painting, surface protection during fabrication and assembly, bundling, and labeling in manufacturing, automotive finishing, and industrial shop environments. The crepe backing conforms readily to curved and contoured surfaces, supporting clean paint lines without lifting or curling.
The rubber adhesive withstands temperatures up to 300°F for 30 minutes, supporting light-duty heat-cure and baking processes. Each case contains 12 rolls and ships via parcel carrier.
